THE EVOLUTION OF GTA

Discover the evolution of one of the best-known game series in the world. In this demo setup, you travel through the history of Grand Theft Auto.

Thanks to the HomeComputerMuseum in Helmond, you can play different editions of the series, each on a computer from the year the game originally came out.

Start with the first GTA from 1997, with its simple graphics and top-down view, and work your way up to the huge, realistic open world of the series today.

And on 19 November, you can play GTA 6 on launch day, right here at Dutch Game Week.

The computers are as much the star as the games. Playing each edition on matching hardware takes you back in time: see how screens, keyboards, mice and processors changed, and how technology shapes the way a game feels to play.

Multiple editions, computers from all ages, one global phenomenon. Take a seat, play along and find out how Grand Theft Auto got here.

About the HomeComputerMuseum

The HomeComputerMuseum in Helmond is one of the largest interactive computer museums in the world, where the history of the home computer isn’t kept behind glass but is meant to be used. More than 350 working computers, from the Altair 8800 (1974) well into the 2000s, are ready for visitors to try. The collection includes record-holding collections, showpieces such as the Amiga 4000 used for the film Titanic and a NASA Amiga, plus special attention to almost forgotten Dutch brands like Tulip, Philips and Holborn.

The museum is also a non-profit with a social mission: preserving digital heritage and guiding people with a distance to the job market, in particular people with autism, into permanent jobs.
