NIXXES: BRINGING AN EVOLVING GAME TO A NEW PLATFORM
Nixxes Software is an industry-leading Dutch company specializing in video game design, development and porting.
This talk will explore the difficulties of bringing a constantly evolving game to a new platform, highlight how Nixxes optimized Helldivers 2 for the Xbox Series S, and discover how they later brought those port defining features to PC and PlayStation. Hilze will go over some of the design decisions behind the questions these technical challenges raised.
Hilze Vonck is a senior graphics programmer at Nixxes, where he’s spent the past eight years porting games to different platforms. During that time, he’s helped ship nearly a dozen ports across half a dozen platforms, each with its own technical challenges and hardware constraints. Most notably bringing Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered to PC, and most recently porting Helldivers 2 to the Xbox Series X|S.
During this time he’s been working with low-level graphics APIs, handling GPU memory management, making games as scalable as possible, and optimizing performance across a wide range of hardware.
